PRIVATE W. 0 COOKSON'S APPRECIATION. A remarkable coincidence befell Private W. 0. Cookson, the well-known Christchurch swimmer, and his brother "Clem." "Wally" Cookson left for the front with the Canter "bury Infantry Battalion of the Main Expeditionary Force, whilst "Clem" departed with the Fourth Reinforcements. In a. letter, dated Mat 13th, just received by their brother, 'Mr L. Cookson, "Wally" states that the two are in the same section. ''Clem and I have scraped through so far," he says. "Clem joined "s a few days ago, and was placed in our section. Life is full of excitement, but we live well, and lack nothing, except soap, which is very Bcarce. It was hard luck losing all those Christchurch chaps. I saw Los Sapsford and Tommy Burns go. Wβ were advancing to the firing line together, and were just within ten yards of it, going up to the hill-top, when they stood up, and- were shot. During our stay m Cairo, and while on the boat, I found out what an absolute white man "Sappy' wae - * would like to make a public apology to the Australians, about whom I have said some hard things.
