Newman asked the tcr of 'l>e fence to-day whether it was correct that, under the Defer.ee Act of liJO?. tliq, pension of the widow aiid children of a major killed in action was £ISO where there were three chilaren, and £-00 where there were Jour, while 'under tho present Bill it was only .£174 and £187 respectively, a shortage of £6 per annum in the one e&se and £13 in the other, mul an increasing sbqitage with every additional child, in addition to the fact that under tho Act of 1000 tho sons' allowances could be continued to eighteen years tif age and the daughters' to twentyone years of age. The Hon. James Allen replied that he was having the matter ot the dif feivncc in the scale of the present, Kill, as - compared with the Act of 1909 in this instance, looked into, and would be pleased to give the fullest consideration to am- instance, brought under his notice uherc the scale, of pensions in uiic new .Bill contoured ■ unfavourably with the Act of 1909..
