WELCOMED IN ASHBURTON.
Private F. O. O'Connor, a son of Mr and Mrs' P. O'Connor, of Ashburton, who was wounded in action at the Dardanelles, and who was awarded tho Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery, arrived in Ashburton by the second express yesterday, and was awarded a civic welcome. He was mot by the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith), and members of tho Borough Cbunril and members of the Patriotic Committee. The Mayor addressed a few words of welcome to Private O'Connor, and on behalf of the citize_ns thanked him for the distinguished service he had rendered his King and country, after which he was driven to his home. The flags in tho town wero flown all day. The Ashburto** ITigh School Cadets and tho Bugle Band paraded at the station, ond formed a guard of Honour and Private O'Connor, as he steoned on to the platform, was loudly cheered by a largo crowd who had assembled. • private A. J. Hill, whose parents reside in Cameron street, Ashburton, also arrived by the second express, and was warmly welcomed.
