REPORT FROM SIR JOHN FRENCH. MORE ACTIVITY IN" BELGIUM. (By Cable.—Pre*? Association.—Copyright.) LONDON. July 18. Sir John French reports: "The situation is unchanged since the Oth inst. though considerable activity has been shown. Both the enemy and ourselves have exploded several mines. Our front was also subjected to a heavy bombardment at various places. The enemy on the 10th developed a small attack north of Ypres and gained a footing in our front line, but our local supports immediately rocaptured what we had lost. "The enemy on the 13th rushed an advance post on the Ypres-Menin road, but were driven out immediately. ! "Further north the same night we | lost a trench held by one company, but j bombing parties drove out the Germans | and re-occupied it. A feature of tho j incident was the Gorman employment I of many gas shells."
