A ea!« of gift work in aid of tho Red Cross Fund was opened in tho Rugby street Schoolroom on Saturday atterucon by Mr A. E. 0. Rhcdca. chairman of the- St. John Ambulanco Asfociation. Mr Rhodes gave an intcr-?stiii<j stddres* on Red Cross work at tho front, and remarked that it wa« a subject on which he covld speak with sympathy, fo r his son wag serving at tlio front as a member of General CJodleya staff. Ho congratulated the promoters of the sale an their efforts to esta-bl eh a working fund in their own locality. The convenor of the committee of ladica which organic-?*! the sale was Mrs John Morehall. assisted by lira 11. M. Krfte. The flail-holders were: —Sweets, Mc-sda-m.es Harrison and Salter; variety, Mesdar.-.cs Brain and Banks; flowers, Mass Hindlc: eako. M<-sdatDeg Henley and Orr. Many otho. r ladies assisted, and thero was a, lars<; display ot saleable poocs, lor -which there wa-s a brisk c'-'tnaad. Dtirinjr tho nftcrnor.n Mr John Marshall auctioned a. New /Ctuland ensign, which realised £$ 6s. Mr Win. Fleming'bought it for £5 ss. On Vine; put up again it was bouVat by tlw auctioneer fcr £3 Zs- Ho presented it to the St. Albans Mothodiet Church. _ Tho proceeds of tho ta!« amounted t--> £165.
