STORAGE FOR MEAT.
CH-ISTCHCRCH MEAT COMPANY'S SCHEME. BIG ADDITIONS -T THE WORKS. The Christchurch Meat Company has decided upon an extensive building .scheme, with tho object of increasing '. tho storage accommodation at its A\fj ferent works, and proven ting, if posI sible, tho recurrence of the difficulties experienced during tho present season ,in tho matter of storage. "When tho company's building scheme has been ! completed tho storage accommodation ;in the South Island will bo increased |to tho extent that space for about 1 280,000 more carcases will be provided. ' This is equal,, approximately, to a 50 i per cent, increase on the space at preI sent provided by the Christchurch Meat Company. Tho company's directors havo just approved of tho plans for- a new store ,at Islington, to accommodate 100,000 carcases, and tenders have been called I for. the work of erecting the building, j which is to ho proceeded with so that the additional storage space will be j ready in ample time for next season. Further storage, sna~e is also to he provided for Canterbury by the company when the reconstruction work at its Smith-eld (Timaru) works is completed. It is hoped to put this work in hard in about two months' time. Whilst making provision for this additional storage spa.c for Canterbury, the company has not been unmindful of the necessities of Otago, aud it is understood that the erection has been authorised of additional storage for 100,000 carcases at the company's woiks at Burnside, .and that this wo k will he gone a? with as soon as possible. The lr.-_-lings to be erected at Islington, Sic?? v field. and Burnside will bo in brick and of the permanent class of .buildings, which is characteristic of the company's works.
