GISBORNE'S SPLENDID RESPONSE.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION- TEI—CHAM.) GISBORNE. May 26. La St week the Gisborne Defence Committee sent £500 to the Earl ©f Liverpool's Hospital Ship Fund, and to-day received from the members of the Poverty Bay Club a cheque for £1500 for th© same purpose. The Club's efforts ar© not yet complete, and
it i s anticipated that the sum ultimate- !*- contributed will be much larger. In Gisborne on Monday I*6oo was collected for tho fund, making a total of £310!) already sent from this district for the Hospital Ship. Tlie Poverty Bay Club has already contributed £3500 to the various patriotic funds. WELLINGTON, May 26. The New Zealand Rugby Union tonight decided to vote £100 to the fund for the relief of wounded New Zealand soldiers and sailors, and th© dependents of thoso who fall. The Internal Affairs Department hs-s received £6728 for the Hospital Shin Fund.
