DESPERATE FIGHTING.

PEROGRAD. May 26. An official statement says sharp fighting continues on the whole of tho Dubissa front.We repulsed th© enemy in the Onatow region, despite his reinforcements, inflicting heavy losses.

"There is desperate fighting on both banks of the San. Our artillery scattered great forces, which made repeated attacks. W e captured twenty officers, a thousand men, and several ma-chine-guns."

Th© High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, May 25 (1.50 p.m.). - In the Shavli region the Russians occupy a wide front on the line of the rivei-s AA r indawa, Wenta, Dubissa, and Si up. •

In Galicia th© enemy, forced by our counter-attacks, has passed gradually to th© defensive along almost the whole front, except in the sectors of Varlihol, Podwoline. and Husakow, where on Saturday, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted attacks on the Russians.

,Th© offensive which opened on Saturday is being pursued along the left bank of the Dniester. It was developed on Sunday with great success, notwithstanding counter-attacks. The Russians captured, after a fight, the now and old village's of Bourcniize, the villages of Ichehnikhuff. and Holowe, and part of th© village of Obstruwe. In th© courso of tho day they took 2200 prisoners, 40 officers, dozens of mach-ine-guns, and a great quantity of war material.

In the Trans-Dniester region there wa 6 a lull, except between Achtechva and the Lomnitza, where the enemy, during the night of Sunday, made a fruitless attempt to attack'
