■_ « EVIDENCE IN T THE SOUTH. (frzss association telecram.) INVERCARGILL, April 30. The Education Districts Commission took evidence in Invercargill to-day. Besolutions from practically every School Committee in the district, nrgjng the retention of the Southland Education District, were received. The evidence included an official statement from the Southland Board arguing that the district should be retained on the ground of efficiency and economy, Sev-eral-witnesses were examined. It was evident from the trend or questions put to the witnesses that the members of the Commission held the view that a larger district made for efficiency, as the greater field of opportunity attracted ambitious teachers. This suggestion was met by witnesses who contended that a standard of efficiency was set, and was complied with "as satisfactorily in Southland as elsewhere. The Commission will Jeaye for Dunedin to-morrow, taking evidence fnere on Monday. The Education Districts' Commission will probably commence its sittings in Christchureh at the Education Board room on Friday, May 7th. Anyone desirous of (riving evidence as to education districts is requested to notify the secretary of the Education Board, Mr H. C. Lane, accordingly. In this connexion, however, the Commission wish it to be known that the evidence given before the Commission of 1912, and to the Committee of the House in 1914, is being treated as having been given to the present Commission.
