MEN. Killed 1 Wounded ... ... <* GREEK REPORTS. FIERCE BATTLE ON WEDNESDAY. ATHENS, April 29. There was n fierce battle on Wednesday at Suvla Bay. Tho Turks suffered heavy losses, and tho Allies captured an entire Turkish battalion. Tho British troops aro operating on the European coast, and the French on tho Asiatic side of tho Dardanelles.
Tuesday's bombardment lasted for twelvo hours, and was mainly directed against tho Kilid Bahr forts, on the European bide, at the entrance to the Narrows.
It is reported at Volo (at the head of the Gulf of Volo, Greece) that a portion of the Australian troops participating in tho Dardanelles operations were disembarked on Tuesday, and immediately, metalled in batteries on the coast.
Erenkeui Bay is.formed by the curve of tho Asiatic 'shore of tho Dardanelles from Kum Kale, at tho entrance, to within a few miles of Capo Kephez, which is about twelve miles further up. Capo Kephez jut* out into the Strait, and from it one can eeo through the passage of the Narrows past Kilid Bahr and Chanak to Nagara Point. The forts of Kephez and Chanak, on tho Asiatic side, and of Kilid Bahr, on the European shore, command the channel of the Narrows.
Yeni iShehr is a coastal village about two miles south of Kum Kale. The road from Kum Kale crosses the river Mendere at a point about a mile from Yeni Shehr. and following tho curve of Erenkeui Bay. passes through the village of Erohkeui. and thence close along the shore through tho ruins of Dardanus and the town of Chanak to Nagara Point. There was a tolegraph line along this road, but it hag ijrobnblv been cut or destroyed long since. The submarine cable across the Narrows was cut come weeks ago by H.M.S. Amethyst, which made a darinjr dash by nj.iht into the channel under a hot fire from the forts. She suffered some damago, and numerous casualties, but acconiDlished her mis sion and returned safely.
