Brown, mounted on a Triumph Motor-cycle, went out and made a frosli record for tin* trii) from Christehurch to Kaikoitra and back. The remarkably good time made on that occasion surprised a good many people -who knew the difficulties of" tho route, and though no less than live separate attempte have receuliy been made upon the record (not by Triumph riders), the tinlemade by Mr Brown stands unaltered as the record for the trip. We mention this old record, not because wo need to lie back on faded laurels, but because roports wo have receivd on the much improved nature of tho route (the roads have improved, the Kowhai river has been bridged, and other difficulties have boon smoothed away) lead us to the belief that Mr Brown's 1913 record can easily be beaten. If it is beaten, then Mr'Bixnvn will go out. again, and •given reasonable, luck, it is not unlikely that he will give motor-cyclists a,, great a surprise as on the occasion of his last attempt.
