Only forty-fivo horses were withdrawn from their engagements on the opening day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club's Faster Meeting. The respective number of acceptors for each of the eight races are:—l 4. 15, 13, 11, l-~, 13. 11. and 14, making a total of 10G. He was given two miles at .omething like a 4.-0 gait, and did it with tiio utmost freedom and ease. Texas, who went with him for about a mile and a half, had no chance of keeping pace at any part of it. She broke once or twice, but di<i not lose much ground. The limit horses will havo to maintain a solid race'if they want to keep out of Our Thorpe's way in the big trot. Rothbury was worked at a fair pace, but did not go too steadily, and left his feefc on ono or two occasions; he looks well. Adventuress, who is carrying a lot more condition than sho usually does, was sprinted one or two quarters, and not only showed plenty of speed, butlooked anxious to go on with it.
