The British recruiting campaign has I re-opened, and is likely to assume considerable proportions. • Everyone recognises that enormous j casual-tie. are inevitable in tho spring (campaign, and fresh men must be found to fill the gaps. I ..-Many Liberals, favour conscription, i and it is believed others will yield if necessary. The "Daily Mail" declares thatthoro is only ono means of filling the grievous gaps, and this is by a steady flow of reinforcement eecured by compulsory service, which is fairer to the individual than voluntary service, as it prevents shirking, and is democratic m that it treat* all alike. Lady Jellicoe, addressing soldiers' wives at Ilford. said she w a « glad the Government was giving a medal for the war to workmen as well as soldiers. She wa-s suro none who did not possess the medal ih the future would ever, have a wife.
