THE LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR Of "THE TRESS."
Sir, — 1 consider that in justice to Christchurch, which, according to your correspondent (Mr Little) iv ttiis morning"- "Press," pays (-i per cent, of the Port's revenue, the chairman of tho Board is bound to mako a public explanation of the apparent "vasto which I.? going on. For a majority or tiie Harbour Board, whose knowledge of the technical work of that i-oi.y .:- certain';.- not apparent, to niereiy vcttin such a manner as to ..uppre.s. .Mr Little, who has studied it, cannot to in the interests of this city, which pays the largest part of the revenue. The men who should be prominent to se_ justic- done to the <itv by calling tho attention of the Council and arranging ma._s meetings, is the Mayor of Christchurch. whoever he may be. Tt is absolutely the biggest question of the day —in the long run. bigger than the "West Coast Rail-ray or the great power scheme —and the position is -that ono or two men ou the Harbour Board representing Christchurch are not allowed to bring forward unpalatable facts against the Board's policy, on the sole ground, apparently, that they am unnalatahk*. The question is, will tho fair-minded section cf tho community out nr> with .the treatment meted out Tr> Christchurch member., any longer? It is not an edifyins. spe.t.-cie to se. these country member-; romi'i*'' into town ever..- fort-night to block its proi grcss.—Yours, etc., DAYLIGHT. March 20th.
