The election, for the retain of.five.membeM to eerre on ib» Liocnsing- Committee .for the district of Lyttelton. wa* held yeeterday, bnt failed to arouse much, inteicet, barely sn of the number eligible to "vote leßistetring their right. The . sitting : committee, Dr. Guthrie, and Messrs Orton Bradley. S. "W. Mitchell. J. Garrard, and J. BicWdeon, had been in office for the past six yeare without opposition, but on this occasion their eeate were contested, by Meeecs D. McR*e and F. Gillard, both, of whom, are weEknown on the waterfront, and were expected to poll tavily. The old members of the committee, however, were returned at nearly every booth by large majorities. The results, •which were announced by the Returning Ofiirer. Mr C. Ferrier, at 6.33 p.m., w«re as follow*: —
