OFFENSIVE IN NORTH POLAND,
GERMANS CHECKED IK THE CENTRE. (Received March 9th 10.50 p.m.) PETROGRAD, March 9. An official statement says: "Our offensive at SuwaJki is developing. "The German offensive on tho Pilitza has been checked, and a counter-attack begun. "Wβ surrounded an Austrian outflanking column in tho Klause region, antl a battalion surrendered." Tho High Commissioner reports: — LONDON. March 9 (0.10 a.m.). Petrograd reports that the German offensive on the left bank of the Vistula, in tho region of tho Pilica, haa boon stopped. In tho Carpathians tho Austrian.* have ceased attacking in the region of Svidnik, but have made barren assaults in Galicia.
