TRADE WITH JAPAN.
EMISSARY TO NEW ZEALAND
(rmSS ASSOCIATTOK TZLEGRAK.) . AUCKLAND. Marcli 8. A Japanese journalist. Mr Mootsaktt Tsuchiya, who is visiting Australia and New Zealand with a view to developing Japanese trade, was a passenger by the Maheno from Sydney. In the course of an interview ho said that ho hoped Japanese trade with the Dominion would develop to such an extent that they would have a direct line of steamers running between Japan and New Zealand. This would obviate the cost of transhipment at Sydney. The Nippon Yusen Jiaisha, the great Japanese mail steamship company, could extend its service from Sydney to New Zealand, but there would be greater advantages in a direct service. At first the service might need to be subsidised by tho Japanese Government, but later on the subsidy could be dispensed with.
