MOTOR AMBULANCES.
AN ADEQUATE SDOEHE^Ef.
(SSBCXAX. TO "THE P8853.")
■WEU3NGTON, March 8. Some misapprehension' appears to -exist in more than one centre in New Zealand about "jfche supply of motorambalanoee for the Expeditionary Force.. The Defence Minister explained tho state of affairs folly to.a xeporteavrtßday.
eaarly- in M^ , ABen, "the-I>efeii«el>eparteieDt ordered fomteen motor ambnlancos at a< cost of £?000. I vas advised at the time thai these would be sufficient for I our requirements. After that order had been placed tho Hawko'a Bay people snbeoribed dose on £4000 for more motor ambulances. Wrth, this money coven motor ambxrlances Imre been ordered, and the vtiucles ace to bo placed at tho disposal of the British. Red Grose Society until "w© want them. In addition to these. Mr and. Mrs Beotham residents of New Zealand, now in London, presented a motor ambtdance, and that onto, as far as I know, is in Egypt at the present I time. Another has been presented by !Mr Birth. It is coming front Turin, I beKeve, to Trentham to be vsed thcaro for the transport of sick men. for it most bo remembered that we hare 4000 troops at Trentham. and we must look after the men there as wefl. an at the front. In Dnnedin some other people wanted to give another ambulance, but since 1 have informed thorn, that we hare enough, they have de-cided-to-vote tiieir money to some other purpose. The fact is that we have enough motor awbniancee for all oar requirements, and we conld not possibly ask the New Zealand public to supply us trith any more."
