THE MEN IN CAMP.
PRAISE FROM THE MINISTER,
RECRUITING SATISFACTORY
(SPECIAIi TO "THE PRHSS.")
WELLINGTON, March 8
"Koeruiting is going on in a quiet way, and it is perfectly satisfactory," said the Hon. Jamos Allen, Minister of Defence, to-day. • "We aro not making a song about it. but the men aro coming in, and tho men are being trained. Tho camp is the best camp wo have ever had, and the men aro behaving splendidly. That is tho report I get to-day from tho Chief of Staff. Drunkenness has almost disappeared, and I am told that the regulation wo made forbidding Jiotelkeepers to supply, bottles of liquor to soldiers "is having a very good effect. I think the work of the Salvation Army and tho churches in encouraging men to sign pledges is also having some effect. It seoms that the men are feeling tho responsibility resting upon them moro than they did."
