TI'RKS SUFFER HEAVY LOSSES.
ACTION NORTH-WEST OF BASRA
LONDON. March 7. The India Office makes the following announcement: "The Ahwaz garrison, during .a reconnaissance on the 3rd inst. found 12,000 Turks.' including contingents of dwaffected tribesmen, at Gbadir. "They .attempted to cut us oft, but were kept at bay until a retirement was "The enemy lost, three thousand killed and six hundred wounded. "Our Joss was tive British and on© Indian officer killed and sixty-three, men killed and 119 wounded, mostly Indians. "V cavalry reconnaissance on the same date, twenty-fivo miles north-west of Basra, drew fifteen hundred horsemen toward* where our infantry with machine and field-aune was concealed, and wo inflicted heavy loss upon them.
