RABBIT DRIVE AT OXFORD.

• 4 AN UNFORTUNATE SEQUEL. The rabbit drive on Wednesday, promoted for the double purpose of eradicating the rabbits and at the same time assisting the Belgians, was a great success. There was an attendance of 150 people. The drive commenced at 11.50 a.m.. and was continued till 5 o'clock, the total bag being S4O. There were visitors from Christchurch, Papanui, Rangiora, and surrounding districts, and great enthusiasm was shown. In connexion with the drive was a guessing competition, the prizes being a bag of wheat, presented by Mr Walter Mng4it; a fat lamb, by Mr T. J. Frame, and a suckin_ pig each by Messrs H. Askew and T. Gnndry. For first place Messrs W. T. Gilchrist and C. Randry tied with 850; for second place G. H. Leech and Hector Murray tieu, tee lormer <_ues-ing -57 and the latter 835. The proceeds from the guessing competition amounted to £4 1-is, and a collection taken up realised £3 13s. The rabbits were sent to the Mayor of Christchurch. who asked to have tbem distributed among the various charitable institutions in the city, and Mr Holland made all arrangements accordingly. They arrived on Thursday afternoon, but on account ._ of close packing were found to be quite unfit for human consumption. One of the city inspectors examined thorn, and was reluctantly compelled to* condemn the whole consignment. *"
