KYRS. At the monthly meeting; of the F.yro County Council there were present — Messrs Richard Evans (chairman), R. O. I>ixon. F. G. Horrell, C. Mclntosh, \V. Lindsay, and R. Ward. A letter was road from the District Hfwltft Officer, statins that ;i cottage near the Girder Bridge was unfit for habitation, and requesting tho name* of the owner and of those who had died from consumption while residing In the, cottage. It was resolved that the information be riven -is far a.s possible. F. S. Menner wrote, asking thnt tJie fence on tne south side of Groin's road be re-erect-ed. The matter was deferred until next meeting. The oHinarv meotinsr of the Tawera County Council was held on Monday, all the members boinc: present. Correspondence was read from the secretary. Great Britain and Belgium Relief Fund, relative to contributions 'o the Bel pi urn Harvest Festival. Tt was decided that the members of the Council be a committee, with power to add to their number, and that each member have a list and canvass that part of the county in which he resides. The Canterbury Fire Underwriters' Association wrote asking if there were any by-laws in the district legulatins: the storage of petrol and other dnmrproiK roo-ls. The clerk was instructed to renlv that there wore no by-laws ami to ascertain if it would anplv to private individuals ac well as stores. From the Whakatane County Council, asking the Council to support a proposal for a rebate on rates that, were paid promn.tlv. ASHBURTON. The • monthly meeting of the Ashburtou County Council wae held yesterday. Present: Messrs C. J. Homer (chairman), J. Cairns, H. J. Harrison, T. Boheriy, A. Brummpnd, "W. T. Lill, J. Studholme, C. Roid and W. Morgan. It was reported that frequent and serious tampering took place in connexion with the water-race at a junction near the sheep dip at Tinwakl, and it was decided to offer a reward of £2o for information which would lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. It was resolved that with a view of enabling the Council to protect its plantations from fires, the itailway Department l>e asked to lease to* the Council at low 'rental' strips of land /ying-between the railway line and tSie Council's plantations. Mr Gregan's tender of £490 Os 6d was accepted for the ■construction of au additional 4i miles of the new water-race from the Rangitata river near Cracroft. A letter was read from the tinder-Secretary with reference to the £*200 voted at the lajst meeting of the Council to the Belgian Jtelief Fund, enclosing the rules and regulations of the Auckland Provincial Belgian Relief Fund. It was decided to write to the Ashburton Committee', stating that as soon as the necessary conditions of the Ashburton Fund were approved by the Government, the. £2-50 and any further instalment which might be made, would be paid over. A letter was received from tho secretory of the Ashburton Committee, forwarding copy of a resolution passed at a meeting of farmers recommending the Council to vote a sum of £2000 as a second donation to the fund. On the motion of 'Mr Studholme, it was derided to endeavour to get Mr Wm. Ferguson, C.E., to examine the Kangitata conibi'ned railway and stock bridge, near T'laling. and to report as to the feasibility and cost of pving effect to a resolution passed at a conference held at Hangitata Island station, asfeinc that the present stock bridge be sufficiently enlarged to enable its beiiie; used for motor and light wheeled traffic .
