A RAILWAY SMASH.
(press association telegram.) INVERCARGILL. March 3. A serious railway snwish occurred at Wallacetoivn cro«iug this morning when ■ a goods train from >;i£htcaps struck a motor-cyclist who, with his machine, was, thrown on to the cowcatcher. . The cycle struck the pointsman who was sitting on the lover, knocking him down. The engine left the I'aiLs, and was followed by Keren coal and grain laden waggons, which tore up the permanent way for a chain and a • half. The engine was badly damaged, and several wajigens were capsized and smashed. The driver, fireman, aud cyciist escaped uninjured. The line was- blocked till late in the afternoon.
