Mr S. R. Kennedy arrived in Christchurch yesterday to make arrangement* for a return season of the Kennedy Musical Company in tho Theatre Royal.
The Very Rev. Dean Tubman. of Timaru. arrived in Chrisichurch by the first express yesterday to attend the annual Catholic Synod of the diocese.
Mr B. M. Wilson, general manager of the Tourist Department, arrives from Wellington to-day. He is accompanying the Rt. Hon. Andreu- Fisher, Prime Minister of Australia.
Adjutant and Mi's Loi-d. who hare been in charge ot the work of the Saivation Army in Oaniaru for the past two years, aro being removed to Inverenrgill. Adjutant and Mrs Dawkins. now stationed at Timaru, will succeed them.
Among the passengers by tho Niagara which arrived at Auckland from Vancouver yesterday were the Very Rev. Dean Reguault, the Very Rev. Dr Kennedy, and tho Very Rev. Dean Hi>lley. who" were proceeding to Belgium to attend the Roman Catholic Congress when war broke out. The. conference was then held at Lyons, in France.
Mr T. H. Davey left last evening for Wellington, where he will meet Mr Georgo Hunter, M.P., and arrange with him the details of their tour of inspection of those districts from which have come applications for totalisator permits made available under the Gaming Act Amendment Act of last session.
