The Proposed Chronic Ward.
In the multiplicity of appeals in connexion "with tho war. which have very lightly occupied the chief place in the public attention in this time of .stress a ud anxiety, and which for the most part have been generously responded to. it is to be hoped that our local ehari- . ties ■will not altogether be forgotten. In another column we publish an earnest, appeal from for an
urgently-needed work—the erection of a Chronic Ward in connexion with the Chri-jtchun-h Hospital. Tho site for the building, which has been provided by the Hospital Board, will be available in a few weeks, and ft is hoped that the balance of the money required will be subscrilMHl at once, so as to allow the •building to be proceeded with without delay. The stim now available, we learn, is 11G84 16?. If the ward is to he a credit to Xorth Canterbury as much more will be required. The ward, we need hardly remind our rentiers, is lor the accommodation of chronic and incurable patients who have no means
whatever of procuring in their own homes- the care and comfort they so terribly need. Some of them, a> Miss Tripp further (Joints out. have no homes. In a word, the public arc now n.skrd to provide for those who have come to their hist stand in the battle of life, for whom there is little or bo hopo except that, their parsing hc-neo may be freed from its worst terrors. The appeal is so poignant and so pressing that we feel sure it will not be made i n vain.
