THE WHEAT CROP.
TO TUB EDITOR OF "THB PEESI" Sir,—ln reference to Mr Malcolm Eraser's report on the wheat, it is a most remarkable state of things that out of twenty-two field inspectors, they cannot give a more accurate return ot tbe wheat yield. There is no doubt that influence comes before ment. Now I doubt whether I am far out when 1 put tho average yield at 30 bushels to tho acre. With the. nice -wet rains we have bad in tho past few weeks, it baa filled out the grain, and given fairweather, the sample should be a good average one. and with an increase ot "■» 7 ( J3 acres, and the half million bushels that the Government are importing there should be no shortage ot wheat Tb*Tft is another factor: Ihe potato crop i> looking better than i> kie looked for many years. That is where tlio land has been cultivated Should the crop t-=eap*> blight and i frosts, there should be some good vivid* There is a qnf«tion 1 should like to draw tlio Government's notice to and that is, no bran and pollard from the -wheat imported should be ailowed io be exported. It is a diszrace ;to think that a young country with a litlie over a million neople should have J come io importing it? wheat.—Yours. i et< " TKNAKAIU). Jauuary 9th.
