NEWSBOYS' STRIKE.
PROPRIETORS' ULTIMATUM
(By Cables—Press As-ociation.—Copyright.) ■ SYDNEY. January 9.
The newsboys' strike against tho proposal of the evening papers to increase the price to eightpence for twelve copies instead of fourteen has been in operation for a week. Th© strike started by tho sellers boycotting the "Sun" and selling the "Evening News," with the intention of forcing th© "Sun" to giv© way, and then attacking the "Evening News." The "News" proprietary, however, refused to supply the newsboys with papers. They claim that street vendors make £5 to £12 weekly. Both sides are firm. The vendors, who have the support of suburban agents, have formed an association. Th© proprietors have issued an ultimatum fixing the price at ninepence per dozen. Papers are not procurable in tho streets.
