ASHBURTON.
Rain set in at Ashburton about ten o'clock on Saturday morning, and continued without intermission till late in the evening, when it began to moderate. It wa s the heaviest and most continuous fall since about the middle of April last, when tho heaviest fall registered for twenty-four hours was 1.28 in. The next heaviest fall recorded for twenty-four hours was in the month of May. when on one occasion l.OOin was registered. The total for the month of April was S.loin, and for May 3.46 in. There was a heavy downpour for a few hours one day in Jane, but the totabfor that month was only 1.02 in. against over nine inches for June. 19i3. The total registered at the Domain weather station from 9 a.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m.. yesterday was 1.23 in. It has gone well down into the subsoil on the grass lands, and will cause a rapid and muchneeded fresh growth of feed for stock. It will also be of immense benefit to turnips and other root crops, and will help to further increase the yield of the..grain crops.
