A northern journal states that Indigo will fulfil his engagement in ths Wellington Cup. His owner, Mr G. Hunter, has not won the race since - 1892, when Cynisca was successful for a third year in succession.
_Warstep may. be taken -to the Dunedin Cup Meeting to run in tho Haz~ lett Memorial Plate, v weight-for-age race with penalties. She will havo to carry th© maximum penalty if she starts, viz., 141b.
A table which has been compiled, showing the totalisator turnover at the various Christmas Meetings, gives th© aggregate at £348,842, as against -.774,534 for th© same meetings last year, Marton being the only club having a decrease in its taking's.
Los Angelos has been withdrawn from all engagements at the Wellington Meeting. Rihgform and. Purscfiller havo been feeling the effects of the hard tracks, and are considered unlikely to put in an appearance at Trentham. Mr T. Cameron, who officiated as 6tarter at the Taranaki Christmas Meeting, had not attended a meeting at New Plymouth sinco ho won a hurdle race thero on Auctioneer twenty-eight years ago. '

Wireless (Soult—Golden Mans) ran first, and "r. tho Plate, of 250 soys, five furlongs, Ghison (Gluten —Soult Girl) rah second to Wolcen, by The Welkin— Kamo (by Seaton Delaval—Waitemata).
Sine© being passed in at the Auckland sales, an olfer of 350 guineas has boon received for tho Waikanae-bred half-brother hy Bezonian to the C.J.C. Derby winner. Balboa. The offer was not entertained, and it Ls probable that tho colt will be sent to Sydney for the Easter sales, alon's* with half a dozen other youngsters from tho same stud. At a meeting of the Egmont Racing Club. held on Friday. Mr S. Kraetzer. of Christchurch, was appointed tho club's private detective. A letter was read from the Salvation Army Headquarters appealing for assistance tcAvards the cost of housing refugees in England, the Army having undertaken to house 2000. It was decided to contribute £20.
A Sydney exchange says: "During the past fortnight the representative of a prominent New Zealand stable has been trying to buy a fair horse in Sydney, but has been unable to get anything of the cla_s desired at a reasonable price. Even a possible slumn in racing during the next year is unlikely to cans© a market drop in the values of Australian horses possessing any chance of winning a race. In New Zealand, too. prices continue high for anything •with pretensions to class."
New Zealand horses and horsemen were prominent at Flemington on New Year's Day. In the New Year Hurdles, two miles. Clontaft. carrying 12st 121b, and ridden bv'H. Cairns."was sent out a good favourite but came to grief «t the first obstacle. The winner, Benvitas, was ridden by .1. O'Connell. In the January Steeplechase, of 300 soys. two miles and a-half. Master Paul and J. Hagerty • arted company. Barfleur (ridden by R. Gra-**l won from 3lr J. R. McDonald's Fireworks. R. Cameron protested against the winner on the ground of interference, and the stewards reversed the positions. Gray was orderod to stand down for three months for carele_-s riding. The Standish Handicap, six furlongs, went to lownit (Grafton —Mv Own), who was successful over the same cours© in th© Newmarket Handicap last autumn. In a field of eight Sir Solo (H. Cairns') was very strongly supported for the Bagot Handicap, one 'mile and a-half, but the New Zealander could only get fourth. Bon Ton finished seventh.
