BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI
The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr .). \\. Barnard), and Crs. Revell. Dunn, I Williams, Crot't, llobb, Garnett, and J Kinaldi. It was reported that the debit balance at the bank was £o3S 17s 4d. and the receipts since last meeting £81 8s 7d; Accounts amounting to £35 ICe od ■were passed for payment. '... ,r A letter w as received from Mr R". Parnham, Amberley, complaining of the. Council using and. damaging his motor-car upon tho occasion of the firo at the Beach plantation on Decemjber 16th. I The Mayor stated the need - of getting !to tho fire as quickly as possible, and it • was decided to write to Mr Parnhani ' explaining the position, and that the .Council -were prepared to pay for any damage done to the car. Ifc was decided to close the Council offices from December 24th till January i 2nd, both 'lays inclusive. I Cr. Williams moved, and Cr. Rinnkli seconded!:-—"That.twelve brass helmets lie obtained for the use of the Fire Brigade." It was resolved that the matter he referred to tho Fire Brigade Committee to report upon at the next Council meeting. The Council decided to adjourn for one month. Sitting as a Domain Board in connexion with a recent fire at the Beach plantation, a proposal was carried to erect a number of notices notifying the public that (ires in the Beaoh'plantation, except in places built for the purpose would render those responsible liable for a heavy fine. It -was also decided during holiday times to appoint a ranger to guard against fires being lighted among the trees.
