ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
Last night the Colosseum was ngaiD crowded to the last seat when tho Orchestral Society _ repeated three grea' numbers of their Tschaikowsky programnie of reuent date. The beautifu "Reverie," for strings," was wiselyplaced at the head this time, markedly to ite advantage. Then followed the delightful suite known as '"The Nutcracker," with all its fanciful or quaint devices and surpr.sos in orchestration. The orchestra enjoyed the playing as much as the audience did tho hearing of it. Finally came the great, wildly gorgeous "1812" Overture, executed as before, with the help of the Woolston "Brass Band, with Mr 11. Estall as con ductor. and of tho High School Cadet drummers. Unfortunately the heat affected the tuning of the "instruments. Between tho orchestral numbers Mrs Gower-Burns sang most skilfully the florid. "Lp, Hero the Gentle Lark," with all its trills and graces, we! , seconded by the flute obbligato, played by Mr Ernest Jameson; and later on she added with dramatic effect the fine soprano aria from Debussy's "Prodigal Son." Miss Lalla Hemus played with vprv warm tone nr>d fp"linir Sclii ,T "nn"» s "Dreaming." Mr W. H. Thorley earned again laurels with baton and fingers.
