The newspapers point, out that Sir John French took enormous risk in ordering the First Corps to Thjwrout via Ypre-s, btet ho undoubtedly thus saved Calais :(trad the Channel ports. reinforcements which the Germans had received wero imperfectly realised afc that stage. Sir Douglas Haig did not reach those cities. Nevertheless, ho held a. lino before Ypres against terrific odds until Genera! Joffre was able to reinforce him strongly.
