Thacker, on Saturday * evening, publicly stated that ho knew t tho names'of various persons in tho Dunsandel and Methven districts, -ivho c held 12,000 sacks of wheat. In support s of this, he offers to lay £100 to £200 «■ that his statement is correct. - Now > ( does it not seem absurd that, although tho doctor is wagering on what he con- s siders ,i certainty, he asks someone to risk £'200 to his' £100 to misprove his , statement? Really, doctor, I thought g you -were a better sportsman than this! Just to try and prove that his inior- i mation is wrong, and at the same time ] to see if he was only playing an electioneering "bluff," I will make him , the following offer:— „»« ~ + He is to stake £100 to my £;>0 that 12,000 sacks of wheat were held and owned by farmers in the Dunsandel and Methven districts on 'Saturday, 28th insfc. He is working on certain information, whereas I am merely backing my own opinion. Therefore, I think that ho is entitled to lay mc a shade of odds. In the event of my offer being accepted, I would naturally expect him to prove his statement or otherwise, inside of ten days.
