Ho describes tho recapture of trenches, tho possession of which ivai involved in the general schenio of tie- ■ fence. . Two attacks by day-timo on the 23rd were foiled. When an army corps , in reserve arrived, the British and ludian regiments, at 10.30 at night, begau the final assault, ana recovered tho trenches at sis in the morning, after a bloody struggle lasting ■• nearly twenty-four hours. We captured threo officers and ninety-seven men, but our losses were distressing.
