NEW ALASKAN GOLDFIELD.

AN BIPORTANT. DTSCOVmY,

(feom otra own corkespondent.)/ - SAN FRANCISCO, October 26. The discovery of a great new goldfield north of Seward, Alaska, in United States territory, that will outdo the ■wonderful auriferous finds of the past in that region of the world, is reported, to tho Canadian Government by G. Collins, managing director of the Canadian Fish and Cold Storage Company. According to the advices received by Collins from prospectors who have just returned from the Broad Pass district, after having spent the season prospecting there, the most extraordinary bodies of ore have been found. Ho predicts that next summer will witness tho greatest rush ever 6een in the Ala6ka goldfields. "The orß occurs in enormous ledges, or dikes," states Collins in his-report to the Canadian Government, "ranging in width from 60 feet to half a mile, and some of these doposits have been traced for eighteen miles. The ore, while rich in gold and silver, lead and zinc, will have to be smelted to extract its values. Assayer Rae, of Knik, assorts that he has treated many samples from tho district, and that per cent, saving can bo made. One ledge examined was more than 1200 feet wido, and is solid ore from rim to rim. Another property on the enrno lead where the ledge is 250 feet wide, has a streak of ore 14 feet wide, with values of 2.50 dollars a ton." So far, owing to bad weather and lack of roads, it has been practically impossible to get food and tools in, but tho United States Government is building a good trail, and tho rash next spring will be able to get through. A Darty of Montana mining men has been in thero all the past summer, and came out this month trith astounding results. They are the Pankey brothers, anrl they say the new field will undoubtedly prove to bo the mineralisod belt of the world. The United States proposes to build a railway into the district, which will permit of its thorough development.
