NEW BRIGHTON.

A meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr C. H>. Winny) and Crs. J. Ainger, J. Ashley, P. Kib■blowhite, 0. "VVithell, O. V. Bergh. and A. W. Owles.

The Christchurch Tramway Board stated that it would give quotations for: street watering after February next, and that tho matter of street lights would receive attention. The request of the Sports Ground Committee to cover tho north end of Nelson street from beyond Mr Winny's houso to the Domain entrance the full width of the street was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. An application from the Fire Briprado for supplies was referred to the Firo Brigade Committee. It was decided to reply to Mi , It. L. Bowbyes that ho must conform with tho by-laws in the matter of fences growing over tho footpaths.

Tho report of the conference set up to deal with matters in,connexion with the tramway bridge has approved and adopted, subject to a proviso that in the ex'ent of a" new bridge being required, the allocation of cost should be decided by a commission.. '

In connexion with a letter from the secrotary of the Surf Club dealing with tho appointment of additional inspectors for tho beach, it was decided to set' up a special Beach Committee.

It was decided to accent the invitation of the' Rev. H. H. Slathias to attend the annual municipal church parado, on the 22ml inst.

The secretary of tho North Brighton Burgesses' Association stated that his executive would refund the cost of any sand drift prevention work necessary in Tonks street.—Referred to the Works Committee with power to act as speedily as possible. .

A request from the Association to erect a band rotunda at tho north end was received, and a committee, consisting of Crs. Owlre. Kibblewhite. and Israelson was appointed to arrange a sito on which the building might be pinced.

Permission was granted the School Committee to take m> -a- collection at tho promenade concert by the band in aid of t-I'e school prize fund.
