So far no permits have boon issued for correspondents to join the- forces, and thoso who aro in Franco aro dodging about behind tho lines picking up what they cau, and occasionally roak» ing dashes to the front. * A few days ago. four-correspondents of a greafc iondou paper were caught near Jlhejms and taken before General 'Smith-Dprrien. They had a splendid new motor-car, for which tho paper had just paid £1200. Smith-Dorrien told them that ho would allow them to go if they gave him their word of honour that they would priut nothing of what they had seen. Three were willing to promise but the fourth began to bluster about the power of his paper and his duty to tho British public. "All right, gentlemen. I am sorry you won't act sensibly," said S.mith-Parrien. "I am afraid I will hay© to send you io Bordeaux." To Bordeaux they wero tont and, of couree. released on their arrival there.
