KAIAPOI
At- the Kaiapoi Woollen Company's Shirt and Blouse Factory on "Wednesday afternoon, a presentation was made to Miss Ruby Cockburn, on the occasion of her leaving the. firm's employ to bo married. The manager, Mr Steere, in a few words, spoke of Miss Cock'mrn's never-failing good temper, anr' pointed to this as the reason. of her popularity amongst the other girls. Miss Cockburn returned thanks for the presents, which took the form of a clock and metal hot water jug.
At a meeting of the Kaiapoi Prohibition Council on Saturday, the Rev. J. I". Martin (president) presiding over an attendance of twenty delegates, the following motion was carried :—"Seeing that the New Zealand Alliance maintains the principle of the simple majority, tlio Kaiapoi Council recommends all tho supporters of the prohibition movement to do all in their power to return to Parliament a majority of members pledged to give the right, to settle all licensing issues submitted to the electors on the simplo majority principle.
