COUNTY COUNCILS.

4 HEATHCOTE. The Heathcoto County Council met last evening. Present: —Mr G. Scott (chairman), Colonel Richardson, and Messrs E. Armstrong, T. Bray, G. K. 13urtou, E. Mulcock, and T. Anderson. The financial statement showed: — Debit balance, district fund account, £4£tttO 9s 4d; credit balance, roading Joan account, £89 Ds lid; credit balance, sewage loan, £14-38 Iβ: credit balance. East Linwood loan, £i 066 14s sd. Accounts amounting to £428 18s lid were passed for payment. The engineer reported that tho •work of repairing the sheet piling at B«sley, ■which was completed, had proved more costly than anticipated, and would be recurring under present conditions. The electric lighting for Cashmere was turned on on October 23rd. A temporary set had to be installed, and isHght aiierations were necessary, as tho dynamo contracted for had been delayed in delivery. Everything -was going satisfactorily. Seven private connexions had been made, and more •would be dealt with soon." Tho report was adopted. Tho Government Valuation Department wrote thai arrangements were made for the revaluation of the county duriug the year, but tho war caused their abandonment. It -was decided to remind tho Valuation Commissioner that he had distinctly promised the valuation this year. The Public "Works Department wrote stating that the amount to be-expend-<xl by the Department .on the Dyer's Pass road -would be strictly limited to £200. including payments to men directly engaged by the Department, and £ for £ towards paying the men engaged l>y tho Council." The letter was received. The chairman reported in connexion with the conference between representatives of the Tramway Board, New Brighton Borough Council, and the Heathcote County Council in the matter of tho maintenance of the bridge over the Avon at Page's road. The representatives at the conference had decided to recommend that each bodr sbculd <;ontribute one-third of the cost. It was resolved to ngree to bear onethird of the expense tip to £20. A hearty vote of thanks "xas accorded Mr Scott for hjs services to tho Council during the past year.
