FIERCE FIGHTING AT YPRES.
BRITISH WIN AGAINST ODDS,
decision; with the bayonet.
LONDON, November 2,
: Tho British have had terrible fighting lately in the region of Ypres. The Germans made desperate bayonet rushes on the British trenches, and the British,' sometimes outnumbered by ten to one, ropeatedly hurled back the enemy and rec-ptured villages with magnificent bayonet charges.
German artillery at Poelcapelle, on the line between Ypres and Thourout, on Wednesday night opened fire in the direction of Boesinghe, three miles northr-west of Ypres, under cover of which infantry strongly entrenched themselves at PoJcapelle.
British artillery bombarded the German position with remarkable precision throughout Thursday, following which French infantry stormed four successive lines of tienches, slaying thousands. After the capture of La Vente in Lille district fifteen British held a trench for twenty-four, hours against seven hundred Germans, until they were relieved- One of the British was wounded.
