ON THE RIGHT.
PARIS, November 2 (evening)
An official etatoment says:—"Despite continuance of a violent German offensive, we progressed eligutly between Dixmude and tho Lys, except at Messines, which we lost. ' Great German attacks made in the euburbs of Arras, and at Bhous-le-Quesnoy, failed.
"In the centre we have progressed in the direction "of Tree-y-Lihal and on jparte of the right bank of the Ajeno between Dore-de-Laiglo and Soissons. The enemy bombarded the Allies between the Argonne and tho Meuse and on tho Meuse heights, without result.
"Wβ recaptured the heights dominating the Pass of Saint Marie in the Vosges, and occupied the enemy's position at Landesapt."
The High Commissioner reports:— LONDON, November 2.
Official: Belgian reports to-day indicate that the enemy has been driven back b<?i"o—d tho Nieuport-Dixmude railway line. The flooding of the Yser river made tho enemy's trenches untenable.
French troops continue to advance south, of Dixmude.
The British were strongly attackod by German reintorcements, but re-took the ground previously yielded to the enemy a* Ghelauix.
Pans reports slight progress north and east of l'pres.
The struggle is fierce in the Argonne district. Inore is violent cannonading, but the Germans are making no progress. Seven thousand German prisoners were taken in six days.
