MAJOR MASEFIELD KILLED IN ACTION.
News has been received by cable that Major llobert Masefield, of The King's <iShrop?hire Light Infantry), a native of Akaroa, was killed in action a few days ago. Major Masefield was the eldest son of Mr V. V. Mlasefield, a well-k.-:oivn retired sheenfarmer, of Akaroa. "
Tho law Major Masefield went to England when nine .years old, with his father. He was educated there, and subsequently joined the Army. On September 18th. 1912, h« was appointed Major in the Second Battalion of the Shropshire Regiment, based on Trimulgherry (for Rangoon,). He was in England on furlough when the war broke out. and was appointed to the Ist Battalion for active service with tho British Expeditionary Force. Major Maseliekl. who visited his homo at Akaroa about, eight or ten years ago, married an English lady.
