TRIP TO MILFORD SOUND
Since the Union Steam Ship Company abandoned the annual trips there has been no means of reaching Milford Sound without going over and returning by the track between the head of Lake Te Anau find the Sound. Many suggestions have been made for round trips, but "!? to the present none of them has been feasible. However, a scheme has now been evolved by means of which those desirous of doing so can make a comprehensive round trip of the South Island, including a call at Milford Soilnd. This has been made possible by the Union Company agreeing to put on tho steamer Arahura to make the connexion between Greyn'.outh and Milford. , The New Zealand Government Tourist Department has the trip in hand and the arrangements have been placed in the hands of the District Agent for Canterbury (Mr 0. AY. C. Moon). It is proposed that two parties of thirty each shall leave Christchurch by different routes and meet at the Sound. This will enable one party to leave the boat there and the. other party will then join it for the return trip. The Department will undertake the whole of the arrangements for the tour, and the charge made will include all transport and accommodation expenses. The two parties will be known as the and "Western,' , and the tour will include a motor run through the famous Fern Drive between Otira and Hokitika, motor runs to Lakes Kaneiri and Mohinapua, a launch trip round Milford Sonnd, trips on Lakes Te Anau, Manarouri, and Wakatipu, and a motor trin from Queenstown to the top of the Crown Range. The Southern party wilt leave Christchurrh on Friday. Dor-pmhor 4th. and the We«+f>rn party on Saturday December 12th. * '
