DISAGREEMENT OVER TWO BILLS
(SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.")
WELLINGTON, October 29
As is not unusual at the end of a session, disagreements in regard to certain BilLs havo arisen between tho two branches of tho Legislature.
The Legislative Council have struck out of the Education Bill the clause inserted by tho Education Committee of tho House giving power to School Committees without consulting tlie Boards, to allow schools to be used for tho purpose of moral and religious instruction outside of school hours, thus offering facilities for the adoption of tho "Nelson system." The House has disagreed with this amendment, but the Council has insisted on it, and a conference of Managers has been arranged. Tho other disagreement is in regard to the Legislative Council Bill, a measure originating in the Upper Chamber The House has amended this Bill by inserting a provision making women eligible for seats in the Council. The latter body does not look with a kindly eye on this addition to its Bill, and it urges that before the House proposed to try the experiment of women legislators in the Upper Chamber, it should have given them the ri.rhr to sit in the House. A motion to this effect has been rejected by the House. A conference is also being held on this matter.
