❖ ; ROYAL LIFE-SATING SOCIETY. Tho- annual general meeting of tlie Canterbury Head Centre of tue Royal Lifesaving Society was held last evening, Mr W. Jolmscn prcs.ding over ft good attendance. Tho report stated that during the season seventeen clasces were examined, and a record number" of awards, gained. It was understood that the Council of the Society in New Zealand had been successful in its representation to the Government to havo control of tuture humane grants. Reference was mad© to the death oi a valued life governor. Mrs Townend, who bad generously supported life-saving work. The annual street collection had been postponed for ti© present. Tho balance-sheet showed: —Receipts £239 Us 9d. expenditure X2IG 43 sd, leaving a credit balance of .£23 103 4d. The report and balance-sheet wero adopted. Tho chairman welcomed back Mrs Marriner after- her visit to England, where, she interested herself in life-saving work. Tho following nwarde were presented: — Life member's badge, Hem. H. F. Wisrrani, M.L.C.: hon. associate's badge and certificate, Messrs F. T. Ager, 15. 3. Agor, r Billsou; award of merit, Mr W. Fisher; hon. instructor's certiScate-, Mr F. X. Kerr; bronze medallion and certificate. Mcssts G. S. Lavie, S. H. Hooper. G. H. Koat, G. A. Eraser; proficiency certificate, A. B. Christensen.
