TIMARU.
THE SECOND DAY. The Timarn A. and I. Association's luck changed for the second day oi' tho Show,' for the' rain-clouds and cold wind had totally disappeared, giving place to bright sunshine, and a gentle breeze thaf was infinitely pleasant. As-a result the public attended in very large number*--, and tho Show was concluded in a" most successful and satisfactory manner. The chief sections judged wero the draught horses, the balance,of the light horses, the cattle.'pigs, and dogs. The entries' in the last-named class had fallen away very considerably, but this is fully accounted for by the fact that _ Do''*Show -was being held in'the-town for the- first timo,- which took a number of entries' away irom tho A. ana P. Association. ' , ' f - A better . all-round display ot draught, horses has seldom W«m-oii-the Timaru ground ;. the .quality ad condition of tho majority-ot Sto the'ring was very 'ifno indeed, tho classes, for nnu-es /-^J^f and won the blue ribbon tor gallons with Mr J. Mr, i • Shearer's weighty mare, .-silver Lrai , , was the reserve champion maro. ine champion, Black - Dougms, oi course, was in the open class, mtn Messrs J.in and "WestenraV Reformer second, iho three-year-old ml card went to tho reserve champion; the same, breeders Melton Prince won the two-year-old class, and his Silver Brown in the yearling Mr Alex Brown's black gelding Billy was tho most stylish gelding seen in the ring, and he scored deservedly in the classes hi which he was entered. Mr Shearer was successful in classes for young geldings. Black. Dong-as was judged tho best walking stallion lne reserve champion maro,' Siver Craig, won hi a fairly strong class of marcs in foal, and the champion scored over Mr A. Brown's Pride, and 'Mr D. o. Wright's Proud Beauty.- in a very strong class of dry mares. Sis three-vear-old fillies were ringed, which gave the judge some trouble, ho finally putting Mr Borrio's Lady Kyvie first, the same breeder showing tho winning two-year-old iilly. Tho yearling prize went, tD Mr T. Taylor's Agatha The teams classes wero splendid, and Mr Taylor beat Mr Borrie in each case. .Several more of the light-horse classes .vere jud-ed, and Mr A. .(Jruiekshanks's Pride of ""Kentucky won a blue ribbon in the open stallion class. Others who wero successful in the' breeding classes were Mr S. W. Scott and Mr J. Bhrfco No championship'was awarded for tiorpughbred stallions, owing to insufficient entries, but Mr J. Grigg's Gay Spark was awarded the first prize. Some very good.classes of cebs and poiiies camo into tho ring, and tho most prominent prize-takers wero Messrs Wareins Bros, G. Donehue. P. L. Donald. G. D. Selbie. C. Boland, G. Murphy, and ItAllen, juur. The breeding classes in the snddle-horso section wero fairly satisfactory. Mr Weston ras Kirn scored again, as a heavy-weight hack, and the saino owner's Katorrelto won in the 13-stone class. Tho light-weight award went to Miss A. G. ltich, who also won in the lady'vs hack class. Mr U. Allan's Chappie was judged tho best traphorse.
There were a very good lot of cattlo yarded, the daily breeds, Jersey and Holstein, being particularly well represented. Only a comparatively' few Shorthorns came before tne judge, and the- championship for bulls went to -o.il exceptionally well-grown ami high-class yearling shown by Mr Al. O'Connor. The reserve went to Mr >■. H. Clarke. The rod-card for the aged cow class was won by Mr C. Austin, and. this breeder, and Mr w. J. Holland divided .the heifer awards. Three breeders showed Holsteitus, Mr A. F. Stocker's Sir Gane winning the open class for bulls. Messrs G. Robinson and A. «S. Elworthy got tho principal prizes fcr two-year-olds and yearlings, respectively. Mr A. S. Elworthy was tho principal prize-winner in tho cowclasses. The single Hereford prizo went to Mr D. Grant's yearling bull. Mr T. McDowell's Goddington Blue Bell, a Gould bull, won the open class in Jerseys, Mr A. G. Hedlev and Mr->E, H. Wilson scoring in the other bull classes. The dry cow prizo went to 31r E. H. Wilson's Sweetbriar Bud. and Mr T. McDowell won for three year heifers. The classes for two-year-olds and yearlings wero large and good, and here Messrs A. Hope and T. McDowell scored. Tho Ayrshires shown were not very remarkable, on the -whole, and tho chief prize-takers were Tnbb. Bros., who got the bull championship, and Messrs R. Grant, and R. Brown. The milk cow classes, however, were really exceptionally good, and the judge said he had never seen a better lot The , best of the Holstein*-. Jersey---. Ayr- ; shires, and some eros-bred cattlo were
entered .in these classes, and tho ccmhination "was a very strong one, indeed. The chief prize-Trinncrs in these classes wore Messrs B. Tripp and W. C. Barrett. The fat cattle, what there •was of them, wero good, but the entry •n-as insignificant.
In the pig section, Mr Charles Brice had the best of it, with his fine piss from Shirley, thoug'i Mr T. A. C. i'earw scored in one or two classes. Tho.produce shed was well filled, and tho exhibit of grain and roots was a moderate one. .PRIZE.
