DISASTER TO REFUGEES.
THE LOSS OF A BELGIAN
STEAMER.
TWO THOUSAND SAVED IN QUICK TIME.

After the explosion the. Belgian refugee steamer, tho Admiral Gantoautne, commenced to settle on an almost even keel.
The steamer Queen and two French torpedo boats sped to her assistance. Meanwhile men and women "who had given irav to panic, rushed xo the sides, gesticulating and screaming for help.
As tlie Queen approached a number of men and women jumped overboard. Soino failed to grasp tho ropes and lifebolte thrown to them, and fifteen others wore crushed between tho two ships. Ouo hoafc capsized and three people were drowned.
The weather proving too rough to launch boats, the Queen finally raanoswvrod alongside, and the refugees, who were the poorest of the poor, scrambled aboard, tumblinß over each other with fright. Despite tho disorder, the Queen rescued over two thousand in twenty minutes.
The captain of the Queen states that the disaster wa* duo to a mine. Others •ttt-il-nito it- to a boiW explosion.
