In tho absence of the Mayor, Mr E. Xprdon was voted to the chair. Therewero also present—Mrs T. E. Taylor. Messrs R. M. Speirs. H. Hunter, and the joint .eecrctaries, Messrs C. H. Gilby and TV. E. Woodham. A voto of thanks was passed to Messrs Willis and Aiken. Ltd.. for printing a number,of handbills gratuitously for the concert lecturo. A letter was read from the clerk of the Htuitly Town Board, acknowledging tho receipt of a parcel of clothing sent by Mra Wilding and the ladies of her .sewing committee, and thanking these ladies and the Mayoress and members of tho committee for tho gift, which was heartily appreciated. .. It. was resolved that -the Mayor and the. joint secretaries be authorised to prepare and submit for publication a statement showing the urgent.necessity for a liberal response to the appeal now being made on behalf of tho widows and orphans. WORK TO BE RESUMED OX MOXDAY. (raiss. associatio.v TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, Octouer 27. The steamer Prophet is due to arrive from Xewcastle on Thursday with 250 cases of explosives for the working of the Huntly mines. It is expected that the explosives will be at Huntlv by Saturday, and that work will be resumed in the Taupiri mines on Monday.
