THE STAR OF ENGLAND ARRIVES.

A MODERN CARGO STEAMER

The new twin-screw steamer Star of England, built by Messrs Workman, Clark and Co., at Belfast, last year for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, Ltd., arrived at Auckland on Monday morning from London and Australian ports, on. her maiden voyage to New Zealand. The new vessel, which is similar in appearance to the Star of Victoria and other later vessels of that lino which have visited New Zealand on various occasions, attracted considerable attention at the Auckland waterfront. The Star of England can show a fast turn of speed, and accomplished the voyage of 1281 miles from Sydney in a lit'Je over four days. Tho new vessel, which is 516 ft in length, with a gross tonnage of 9150, haa been built under special survey for the high __. class in Lloyd's Registry and to the Board of Trade requirements for a first-class passenger and cargo steamer. ■•Comfortable accommodation for a number of saloon passengers is provided in large and well-furnished staterooms. The dining-saloon is tastefully decorated and furnished in oak. These rooms are all well lighted and ventilated. Th» upper 'tween deck spaces have been so arranged that they can be readily prepared for the accommodation of about 900 third-class'passengers in large rooms suitably furnished. The lifeboat accommodation is in excess of the Boajd of Trade requirements, and the boats being placed under Welin davits, can be readily put out and lowered, even under adverse weather conditions. The vessel is also provided with an installation of wireless telegraphy and submarine signalling. The cargo space is divided into six holds, four of which are insulated and prepared for
