METHODIST CHURCH.
DURHAM STREET
At the quarterly. meeting of tho officers of the Durham street Methodist Church thero was a good attendance. Tlio Rev. P. N. Knight was formally welcomed as the newly-appointed minister of the circuit. Tho pastor's report showed an increase of thirteen full members for tho quarter, a total of 253. It was also stated that two new classes for fellowship had been formed. Tho Sunday school returns were small for so largo a church, 160 on tho roll, average attendance 120 Tho small number on the roll was accounted for by tho long distance at which most families reside.! from the church. Sixteen teachers showed an average attendance of sixteen, which was the best possible. 'Church congregations wero reported as very largo during tho quarter, and tho finances were consequently buoyant. Tho balance-sheet, presented by Messrs A. K. England and E. C. Brown,' included tho following items:—lncome: Collections £173; sustentation fund, £18 10s; total, £191 10s —which is a record for many years. Tho expenditure was £112, leaving a credit balance on the quarter of £78. which goes to reduce the debt of tho Church Trust Building Fund. A request was received from tho Homo Mission Fund for help towards the cost of importing missionaries from Cliff College, England. A sum of £5 was voted, and the minister was authorised to make an appeal from tho pulpit for this object. Tho following resolutions concerning public matters were carried:— "That this meeting expresses its gratification at the introduction of tho Bible-in-Scbools Referendum Bill by the Hon. the Minister for Education, and urges members of Parliament to r__.s the Bill into law as soon as possible." "That this meeting respeclr_lly protests against tho proposal to increase the number of racing days for which permits may bo granted ior tho use of tho totalisator." It was decided to se»°- copies of tho above to the Prime Minister and members for the district. Sister Winifred, the church t'eaconess, presented a report of useful work done, and was cordially thanked for the same, .rrangeiuenls for the forthcoming Home and Foreign Missions anniversaries were made. KAIAPOI. Tho quarterly mooting of the Kaia.poi Methodist Church Circuit w-_shel<« on Wednesday, tho Rev. P W Fair clou -i presiding. It was decided to ask .Mr J- Wvlie to accept the position of treasurer of tho Homo and Foreign Missions Fund. Letters of -vmpathv were ordered to be sent to the relatives of tho late Mr Thomas Pashbv and Mrs Morrison, also to Mr F. Thome, in bis ill_e-_. Resolutions protesting against any increase in the number of racing permit, and supporting the Bible-in .schools movement were carriod. It was decided to cooperate with the V.M.C.A. in Territorial camp work. Reports on Sunday School and Christian Endeavour work were read and adopted.
